Summer Adventure in Martha's Vineyard

Mbote Mes Amis!

It’s been so long since I’ve written a blog. As a lot of you know, this pandemic has affected women differently. I’ve had to parent more and “work” less. Luckily for me, I was able to spend an amazing time in the Vineyard with my family and our vaccinated friends and family.

Martha’s Vineyard is the first trip we took with our daughter Georgette. We stayed at some hotel in Edgartown (I can’t remember the name). We walked to the lighthouse beach, visited shops, and ate at the Wharf. Fast forward to ten years later and we are staying on the island for six weeks, my items are in stores and doing well and we have built great friendships.

For those that don’t know the island, Martha’s Vineyard is what I consider Utopia. Everyone co-existing, it is relaxed and it’s a super diverse crowd. Martha’s Vineyard is the land of the Wampanoag people. There are still on the island - especially in Aquinnah and Chappaquiddick. . I actually made a wrong turn and ended up on tribal land. I was so nervous but a gentleman guided me to where I needed to be. There’s a wonderful museum about the Wampanoag people. If you want to go fishing in Menemsha then find a Wampanoag Captain. Their knowledge is unsurpassed.

Last year we stayed in Oak Bluffs. Oak Bluffs is literally the Mecca for Black Americans. It is one of the few places in America that black people can say that they’ve visited and were welcomed for generations. By the way, I played golf right along with President Obama, met Caroline Kennedy, and played tennis right next to and with First Lady Michelle Obama (I don’t have a video or photo of that).

This year we wanted to try something a little bit more Up Island but not so far from Edgartown. Our broker Kimberly found us a great house in West Tisbury. It’s six bedrooms, 5 baths and it includes a massive pool. The kids and grown-up had such an amazing time at the pool. It was a great place for our six weeks summer adventure. We brought our jeep and my car to traverse the island and its amazing beaches.

Below is a tour of our summer rental. We made such great memories here. I hope you like our video. I will do a summer tour guide of the vineyard at another time.

I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Please stay safe and reach out to us if you have any questions.

Many Thanks,

A
