Les Amis de Mulunda & Georgette
I’m so excited to announce the formation of our new non-profit based in Kinshasa. We named it after two women that I love and loved dearly! My sister Mulunda who passed away as a toddler, my amazing mother Georgette who passed away way too early and the person who has my entire heart my daughter Georgette.
Les Amis de Mulunda is a dream that I have had for a very long time. I’ve always wanted to find a more meaningful way to be able to help others. The new President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Felix Tshisekedi has put a call of action to all Congolese in the diaspora to find a way to help re-build the Congo. The Congo is such a vast country with an amazing population of young and creative people. This is our way to answer the call of action and create a ripple effect.
We currently teach our artisans how to work on their finition (French word for finishing touches), how to better market themselves, pricing strategy and financial literacy. At Les Amis we will do all the above and more. The artisans and students will have a space to practice their craft, get coaching by our experts and be prepared to demonstrate their vocational skills and/or start a business.
The youth of the Congo are creative, innovative and hungry for these opportunities. We are just the conduit to drive them towards their goals. We’re so excited to see what happens when we get all these amazing people together and what amazing things we will create.
We will keep you all updated on our organization and the progress. Please reach out to us if you’d like to get involved. We are always looking for teaching artists, business coach and all around wonderful people. The classes can be conducted online or we can plan a trip to Kinshasa.
With Gratitude & Excitement,
Adolophine
