Adolophine -Making Africa Her Business
This Mompreneur is making Africa her business, literally.
Adolophine is a home decor and Accessory company curating and celebrating artisans across the African continent. At Adolophine, we aim to celebrate the history, culture, and ARTIST-ans behind our products. Each of our carefully curated products not only tells a story but helps to preserve cultures and practices passed down from generation to generation. "Everyone on the Adolophine executive team is from a different African country with her own culture, story, and impact and just like our products, we mix and match to create something beautiful," explains our Founder and CEO Adolophine Lukabu Sheeley. "We are Africans bringing our products to the world."
Adolophine partners with African artisans by traveling to each country to directly source and partner with each artist. We know our Artisans by name, like Mama Niang from Senegal who makes our beautiful Madame Diop dolls. With the use of technology and communication apps like WhatsApp, we are able to maintain relationships with our artisans from across the Atlantic. Our business model is simple: We get the best products from the people who make them the best and have been for generations and we sell them to the rest of the world while educating them on the history of that product and its process. Simply put, the skills, passion, love, and history of our artisans are unparalleled.
We help our Artisans, most of them women, participate in the artisan economy, continue their practice of traditional crafts all while earning an income and sustaining their livelihoods.
Adolophine's core Team is made up of African women of different backgrounds, religions, and cultures. "It just makes sense for our people to be behind our own products. For a long time, the world has seen Africa from the eyes of outsiders, I think its time that the world sees Africa from the eyes of Africans. Thatβs why I make it my business to not only work directly with Africans artisans but employ Africans here as well. Everyone from my E-commerce manager, the buyer even down to my videographer is African-and women at that!" declares our company's CEO. Shopping Adolophine creates jobs, increases local incomes, and preserves ancient cultural traditions that in many places are at risk of being lost.
