Travel Series & Labadi Beach

We wanted to share with you all some of our favorite places that we've visited in the past few years. It's really amazing how you see African culture and traditions entrenched in so many places around the world.

The Travel Series will serve as a fun guide, a way to share interesting stories and experiences and therapy for us since we can't travel for a bit. We hope you enjoy our series and are willing to share your travel experiences with us. Through travel we are able to understand each other better, break down barriers, connect, and build bridges.

Since it's Memorial Day weekend our first post will be about Labadi beach in Accra, Ghana. Labadi full name is La Pleasure Beach and its located in the town on La. It's. really a fun place to visit. Labadi is one of the busiest beaches in Ghana. Ghana has amazing coasts but we couldn't venture out so we decided to just visit Labadi.

Once you pull into the gates an attendant gives you a ticket and you pay for the day pass. We parked the car and went towards the entrance. There are small beach shops that sell bathing suits, souvenirs, and mementos. Actually, let me take a step back. Once you park several people come up to your car and offer to invite you to their part of the beach. Labadi beach is split into different sections - just like Miami Beach and other places. Each restaurant has a certain part that belongs to them. There's also the Labadi Beach Hotel Spa nearby. I heard they give amazing massages. When we arrived we had a hard time deciding between Red Butterfly Sportsbar and other restaurants. We decided to go with Red Butterfly because they had a table for us on the sand.

While walking to our seat we had people on horseback ride up to us and offer us rides on the beach. I actually yelled at one of the guys for pulling the bit on the horse too far and twisting the horse’s head (my daughter has been riding since she was three). Once we sat down we ordered a bottle of Rose and asked the waitress to pick three different plates for us. We hung out at the beach and had a fantastic time. We watched a group of people play soccer on the beach. They invited us but I didn't want to leave my wine. We saw a bunch of people attempt horseback riding on the beach and in the ocean. They are definitely braver than me! The best part, we were entertained by a group of people dancing, doing acrobatics, and even using fire during their performance. We had the best weather, the water was warm, the food was fantastic, the live bands kept the music going and there was always something to see. Next time we will stay for the bonfires and late-night party. We had to head out for our fun dinner at Coco Lounge. We will do another post about places to go and things to see in Ghana.

The great thing about Ghana is that its beach weather almost all the time. It's such a fun and relaxing experience. Next time we will visit Bojo Beach in Accra, Coconut Grove Beach in Elmina and Busua beach. There's another great beach in Accra called La Palm Royal Beach. It's calmer and quieter than Labadi. I have a personal preference that when I'm in Africa I want to hang out with the locals as much as possible.

We hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. Thank you to all those that made the ultimate sacrifice. We hope you all enjoy your time with your loved ones and continue to be prudent and social distance.
